Third 'Reporter' book published

My latest book, the third in the JP Weiscarver Mystery Series and titled "The Reporter and the Penguin," has been published. Information on where to find it is below, but first a teaser from the back cover:

Officially, Shane Peltzer had walked into the Antarctic interior to his death and reporter JP Weiscarver has no reason to suspect otherwise until the unwitting intervention of a penguin.

With his nose for news compelling him to take a closer look, JP sets about ferreting out a story on the world’s coldest, highest and windiest continent.

JP Weiscarver often says the most rewarding aspect of a reporter’s job is the opportunity it affords one to experience new things, different places and intriguing people.

Such has never been more valid than when the journalist from Oldport, a small city on the Gulf of Mexico, earns a chance to work in Antarctica for a summer season.

While JP enjoys the remarkable scenery and people of the Ice, he still manages to stumble upon the story of a mysterious disappearance, written off a year earlier as an accident. Exploring possible crimes is not his job here and he’s not sure everyone wants the truth uncovered.

The paperback version is available directly from the publisher at https://www.createspace.com/4519939 or from Amazon at www.amazon.com/Reporter-Penguin-Steve-Martaindale/dp/149372889X/

It is also available for electronic download via Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GS792A8.

I've also just opened a Web site for my books and other efforts at www.stevemartaindale.com. At the moment, it only has the landing page online but will be developed as I can.

Yellowstone blog

My wife and I are counting down to our departure for a summer working in Yellowstone National Park.

Naturally, I've set up a page where we can keep everyone up-to-date on what's happening, post photos, etc. It's rather bare bones right now, but we promise to keep it lively come summertime.

Check it out here. You'll see a spot there where you can leave comments and questions. We'd love it if you did so.

Top movie lines

Time to beat up on Steve. I put together a list of my top 12 movie lines at http://www.squidoo.com/top-12-movie-lines. I trust you'll tell me where I messed up. Read through the list and in the section toward the bottom that's titled, "Hey, you dropped my line," list your favorite lines.

Book now available

When I e-published my first novel a few years ago, too many people said they wanted it in book form. Well, now it is ... with a bonus second book.
The original, “The Reporter and the Ferret,” is joined by “The Reporter and the Hurricane” in both a paperback and a Kindle version available through Amazon under the cover title of “The Reporter, a Ferret and a Hurricane.”
I would be honored if you choose to give the book a try and doubly so if you find it worthy of recommending or gifting to a friend.
For the paperback, I suggest going straight to the publisher at CreateSpace. Click here for the paperback version and click here for the Kindle version.

Polls and plates

There are a couple of new projects Steve's working on.

One is the result of the growth of specialty license plates. A survey of the 50 states and D.C. found 41 with plates that have an environmental angle to them. Steve's started going through them, featuring a new one every day or two. Keep up with them -- and share your thoughts about these and other speciality plates -- at Going Green on a License Plate.

Another project is called Polls on Just About Anything. Why? Because that's just what it is. Again, he hopes to add a new poll every day or two. They ask questions that range from how toilet paper should be placed on a roll to national politics. Visitors can just click an answer and move on or -- to really make it fun -- include a comment about their selection.

When you gotta go...

Trying to find a good place to take care of business while traveling by auto is almost as common as taking care of business. Take a look at ideas about where to stop and share your thoughts on Steve's latest page.

It's gonna be an F5!

There's just something special about the 1996 movie "Twister." Steve takes a look at the film and why his family thinks it's so good. Check it out at www.squidoo.com/movie_twister.

Just go

If you've read much of Steve's work, you've figured out he loves to travel. It occurred to him recently that the last two big trips with his wife were vastly different. Which is best, a spontaneous or an intricately planned vacation? He explores that question on his new page, Travel Techniques. Be sure and leave comments and share with friends.

Rating the movies

Steve's sharing his IMDb moving ratings, offering a bit of insight into his psyche, perhaps? Can you believe, on a scale of 1-10, he rated "Annie Hall" a 2? Or "Reservoir Dogs" a 3? Check out his list at www.squidoo.com/rating-the-movies and use the comment features to tell him what else he messed up.

Updates

I know it looks as if I'm doing nothing, but I've made a lot of headway on my next novel. Meanwhile, there have been updates made to several pages, such as Job Interview Suicide, my bucket list, the strangest things I've ever seen, my reporter novels, and, most importantly, my mission to warn others about bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer and me

Steve's developed a new interest as a result of discovering a tumor in his bladder: encouraging people to heed the warning signs of bloody urine. Check out his first-hand reports at Bladder Cancer and Me.

Steve caught a photo of a billboard that might not have the desired effect, given current events.

Bucket list

If you've read the A Texas Voice column over the years, you know Steve's never been shy about sharing what's happening in his life. Now he's put together a bucket list reviewing some things he's checked off the list and looking at what might be next. Read along, for sure, but there are plenty of ways to insert your thoughts, including writing your own list.
